We have all been super excited for Will's arrival. Will is Ali's son who lives in California who she has not seen for a couple of years. Last night we hosted a meet and greet dinner for him. It was a great night, Mexican of course and we even played Amanda's game which we have not played for ages.
The Bahamas is not part of the Caribbean, and Bahamians will tell you they are not. They are not even close, we discuss all the time with the students. However, the other more Southern islands have a lot of similar history to the rest of the Caribbean and even if not Geographical they recognise that it is culturally. Grand Bahama is different, as I discussed before, people only settled here 60-70 years ago. Having said all that they roll with the Caribbean label as they all know it is good for tourism. And last night it was the second time that I actually felt that culture, and I LOVED IT!! We took Des and Ali's son (who just arrived) to the Wednesday Night Fish Fry (I snuck in my vegan lasagna). The music was the best, it was cheap and well I loved it.
After a fairly stressful few days at work and well just with life, I decided we were all going out. Des and Adam wanted to see the sharks, they always make Luis happy and Sebastian loves them too. It was just what everyone needed and we had a fantastic evening.
Des is the only person in the world that knows all my worlds. She obviously knows the Ecuafam as we were there together. She met the British, Bajan, Basel and Canadian folk at our wedding. She spent a month with us in Phuket and then she came and saw me at Maria's wedding meeting even more Basel people. And now she is getting to know my Bahamas family. The only way for her to do that is for us to have a few events at home while her and her family our here. Saturday we had a pub night and Sunday another relaxing day.
We spent the first few days with Des, Adam and Sage just relaxing in the house. They are trying to catch up on sleep they have not had in months and are just loving being on the porch in a hammock. However, yesterday we dragged them out to a different beach and our favourite Friday night place, Banana Bay. They have not been out to a restaurant since March last year. I could not believe their first journey outside their home was literally to get on a plane to see us! I felt pretty honoured. We had a lovely evening and now spending some more relaxing time at ours. Sebastian is just over the moon to have them, he is totally in love with Baby Sage and Des's story book reading skills.
The last time I saw Des was almost three years ago in Romania. Her and Cody met me in Bucharest as I was there for Maria's wedding. Well how times have changed. I have a toddler and Des has a husband and a beautiful baby boy. We are so excited that they chose their first post baby destination as a visit to us! Sebastian is over the moon to have a baby in the house and has been so super gentle with Sage. It is so super cute to watch.
The best one yet, considering it is number two and last year's could not have gotten much worse it was always going to be the best. However, it was beyond fantastic. Luis cooked a great Thai curry for breakfast, then spent the day cooking Indian for our dinner. Sebastian made me two amazing cards and well it was just the perfect day. Part of the day spent with Sebastian and Luis and then joining our friends for the celebrations.
