Andersen Night

It was always going to be hard to top our Friday night, but with Andersen's coming over for dinner we knew it was possible.  By the time they came over, I had been to the new supermarket three times and it has only been open two days.  We were super happy to welcome Peter's sister Pia and his nephew Max who are visiting from Denmark.

A night of Ecuadorian cuisine, a Sinead special dessert, and a lot of laughter.  It was indeed better than the supermarket opening.

Our Big Friday Excitement

We have been eagerly awaiting the opening of Saywers for the last six months.  It was meant to open in May and it just kept getting pushed back.  Finally on Thursday the message went around that it would be having a soft opening on Friday.  I have not been so excited for anything since our arrival here.  We rushed home after work, picked up Bruce and were on our way.

Yep, it is a new supermarket and it was our most exciting Friday night in ages.  I do love a supermarket and this one is super close, big, new but sadly still expenisve like the others.  It has now cut our 5km radius of places we go down to 2km though so that will save a little petrol money!

Master of Escape

After a wonderful celebration, Lola made a mad dash when a massive thunderstorm rolled in.  Nine hours later and we were still searching everywhere.  I was positive she was stuck in the bushes somewhere.  I also knew she would never bark to indicate where she was.  I was so scared we would never find her, at least not in time.  Luis, Bruce, Sinead, Sebastian scoured all the nearby places.  The whole community shared photos of her everywhere.  It was a miracle that we got her back.  A couple of dog walkers who Luis had met earlier found her, well actually their dogs found her. She was deep in a wooded area, nowhere that we had looked or thought to look as it was quite far away from our house.  The couple knew to go to the hotel next door to us (as Luis had mentioned this) and Leno (a friend of ours) went with them to get her out.  I wish I could figure out how to post a video, as it is unbelievable how deep she was in there.  It was a miracle, simply a miracle.

She was very tired, hungry, and thirsty but happy to be home.  Roast chicken for her all week and I am vegan.  So a real treat.

The Big Day

Finally, Sunday arrived, the big day was here!  And we had loads to do to get ready for the party.   We started off with a birthday brunch with Bruce and then spent the rest of the day getting ready.  Luis had a great party, we danced the night away and all had a great time.

Birthday morning surprise!  I must say Luis got totally spoilt by lots of people.  He was very touched.

A lovely evening.  It is the next morning where everything went wrong...

Birthday with Sebastian's Bestie

The birthday festivities continued on Saturday with Sebastian's best friend and his family.  It was such a lovely evening, a bit of food, some bubbles and a perfectly made cake made by me.  I was so shocked at how good it turned out actually, and even better it was sugar-free.

They are so sweet together now.  Axel is such a gentle character, and they are playing better and better everytime.  What I cannot believe is that I did not take a picture of my cake!  Now there is no evidence that it was near to perfect.

The Birthday Weekend Begins

When I met Luis he was big on celebrating 'birth month', over the years and now with Sebastian, we have shaved it down to 'birth weekend'.  This year he is lucky though as it is a long weekend giving him one extra day.  Friday we kicked it off at The Stone Crab where Luis had the best meal he has had since we have arrived.  It was super nice to go out for a treat.

Sebastian had a great time running around the restaurant (we were there early so not busy).  All I could think about is how much I would have judged us years ago for letting a child run wild in a nice restaurant!

Love a Sunday

Sunday was always traditionally my favourite day of the week.  It started by being Super Sunday back in Bruton.  Some of my fondest memories are in The Sun Inn on a Sunday.  Then I started teaching and Sunday became less fun, I started to panic about Monday's lessons and for a few years, Sunday was not so great anymore.  But now I have been around the block and I find Monday so much less intimidating.  Although they are less likely to be Super Sunday's like back in the day, I am very happy with the new Sunday Fun day.  This Sunday was a great one, a morning playing at the garden of the groves followed by a great night at Russ's (wine club member) house.  It was actually the house we were originally desperate to get.  I did love it, but ours is better for social gatherings and on the beach so I did not leave green in envy.

Sebastian had the best time and just loved every minute of it.  He definitely loves grass and had the best time just running and playing in it.
